Common problems of air blowers and how to fix them
An industrial blower is used to blow a large quantum of air in an industrial application. Industrial blowers are often used for ventilation, cooling, drying, dust removal, exhaust, cleaning, and other uses.
They have various industrial applications, including paper, textile, cement, glass, transportation, automobile exhaust applications, HVAC, etc.
Industrial blowers have many applications. However, because of their constant use in difficult situations, several industrial blower fans have failed. As a result, it is imperative to perform preventive maintenance on industrial blowers to identify the areas prone to failure.
Here are some of the common problems that cause the failure of the air blower and solutions to fix those-
1. Insufficient air flow: One of the causes of industrial air blowers is the lack of airflow. Airflow obstructions can potentially showcase other issues. Inadequate airflow could be caused by a duct system that opposes or restrict airflow. Other possible causes include an incorrectly set blade angle, an inadequately mounted impeller, and a misaligned impeller not secured by intake collars. Insufficient air flow may harm not only the fan but also other components. Filters can also have minimized airflow due to unclean or clogged filters. A filter replacement with higher pressure drop parameters or an entirely installed new coil with tighter fin spacing can be the solution.
2. Excess noise and vibration: Industrial blowers are electrical devices, so there is a great chance they will experience noise and vibrations from inside and outside. These elements immediately impact the performance and durability of industrial fans over time. The signs can diagnose the issue as a squeaking noise made by a fan when turned off. This can be due to the foreign particles entering the fan, loosened bearings and shafts, corrosion, lack of lubrication that creates friction, and more. All these cause immediate failure of the industrial air blower.
3. Damaged machinery: Damaged components can cause the failure of the industrial blower. Immediate replacement of the damaged parts, including the impeller, bearings, shafts, or belt, is the solution.
4. Electrical issues: Electrical or mechanical issues are two critical aspects of industrial blower failure that can completely stop the fan. Insufficient power, faulty belts, blown fuses, and other issues can cause issues. It is advisable to call a specialized person to rectify the issue.
5. Component balance issues: Vibrations can easily detect the failure of the air blower and unbalanced impellers, sheaves, or motors. Bearings in a motor must meet the standards and withstand the load. Vibrations also indicate an issue with the fan’s foundation. Check the weather isolators, shims, or anchor belts on the fan’s foundation are correctly sized and installed.
